Why exempt the boy-child?

Hello everyone.
Today on my way home, I walked pass a school. I overheard a female educator addressing the students on the assembly ground. She harshly rebuked the girls for not performing their feminine duties of sweeping the classrooms. She echoed that such tasks was meant for only the girls. She was embittered that the boys had swept the classroom.
She told them it was the sole duty of girls to sweep, cook and perform all household chores. The boys however are exempted from such duties, due to their gender.
I’m not trying to be controversial but I ain’t grooming my kids with such mindset. No exemption!!!
However, this is my opinion. I await yours.

  1. Every child should be able to perform as many chores as possible; it's a sign of giving roles and being responsible. This can build leadership skills early in a child and develop problem solving techniques as they grow. Children should not be exempted from chores, even i as an adult, i have household chores and I keep to them as a regiment everyday. And I'll still do them when I am grown and use it to teach my kids as well.

  2. It is very necessary and important for a child to be taught basic domestic duties appropirate for their age regardless of their age as this in a way be very useful in the child when they grow up as they will learn to adapt to any given situation later in life

  3. I agree that chotes should not be segregated along gender lines but I disapprove of the extent of your message. This is Africa. When we completely discard our culture, we lose our identity. The idea is to strike a balance between modernization and culture much like the one we strike between religion and constitution. My take is that the girls should still be taught that domestic activities is their home base while boys be taught that all skills should be learned including domestic chores. Same way we now send girls to school to build a career yet when they get married they still take it for granted that their husband is majorly responsible for providing for the household.

    1. This is in reference to children's upbringing. And not all girls take education for granted nor dump all financial responsibilities on their husbands.

    1. It makes them responsible. Some men can't even turn garri. So both should be trained

  8. I can understand where that FEMALE EDUCATOR is coming from, but the way in which the message was passed was overstated.

But she's most likely angry at the girls because they didn't do what they'd most likely be doing as long as they breath.

I can understand versatility in performance of house chores, but that won't change the fact that a wife has some STANDARD BASIC CULTURAL DUTIES.

    1. Yea culture. Culture might have made some women just housewives instead of workers . And that's changed now. So how do you explain that ?
