In the book, ‘It’s Not Only Rock & Roll’, the author claim that music provides teens with a firm cultural identity. To a large extent, it also defines the way they act, dress and speak. We have famous music artists icons influencing teens and youths lifestyle; though often not in a positive way.
I watched a musical video; DeBarge - Rhythm of the Night (1985) where everybody was conservatively garbed.
However, in present times, a large percentage of the musical videos broadcast on our daily television, the ladies are all but completely nude; while the men have their trousers half way down their asses.
And worse of, international companies as well as the government, endorse this people, rewarding them for their meaningless lyrics and partially clothed bodies.
Unsurprisingly, teenagers and youths observe the behaviours as morally acceptable; as role models to emulate.
And then we ask ourselves where moral decadence of the society springs forth?
If our society praise and see this artists as upstanding individuals, then I see no need for anyone to get judgemental about the near nakedness we see on the streets donned on by our teenagers and youths alike.
You desire a positive modification, change who you depict to the society as positive role models.
Their dressings aside..... They work too that's why they qet to receive awards....

DeleteIn regards to their outfits
DeleteThe role model that they should see and follow is you their parents, and family. Make sure they see you and maybe you can be their role model like it’s supposed to be. They are following them as role models because they don’t see you their grandparents, parents and siblings. They need someone to be there role model!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt’s too easy to blame the music videos etc, look in the mirror.
Mmmmmmm. Interesting perspective.
DeleteTrue talk indeed.
ReplyDeleteThe age we live in is basicially influenced by the social media. If we don't see shit on tv we would see it on the internet..but music is highly influential especially now that a high percentage of the youths are stucked on GOTV and there are only a few things available to watch so African magic and music channels are all that they dedicate time to watching there are simply no role models to learn from from those channels
ReplyDeleteNicely said #olajide
DeleteHmm...... Nice one.

DeleteThe age we live now speaks a lot about the habits and lifestyles that we inculcate, acts in videos are influential and very easy to take in. Artists do things exceptional to get fame and aid their their well-knowness. Whenever someone do something exceptional, they are praised and rewarded that's what get them the awards they receives from government and international companies. This can't be changed all because it goes with what those of this generation wants. It lies for the parents to watch over the lifestyles of their young ones and lay a path they should follow and give them impacting roles to play and guide them to follow good examples and this will make the follow up of destructive models to reduce.
ReplyDeleteThe issue is with the government/ companies championing such indecent behaviours.
DeleteNot only parents are role models.
But Parents can guide and influence them to be the next generation to scrap out these things

DeleteTeenagers of this generation do have a mind of their own. Will take a greater willpower to influence
DeleteIf the parents catch them young they will walk in the right path
DeleteHow many parents have caught themselves first
DeleteThat's why we have these things happening now
DeleteWhat a wonderful world π€
DeleteNo. Create your style
ReplyDeleteModerately
DeleteYou have a point there. But I have no issues with how celebrities dress or dressing in music videos. We always have a choice and if your children stick to these things to teach them how to act or dress, maybe you need extra parenting lessons
ReplyDeleteThe issue is most kids cant differenciate the visual world from real world.
DeleteAnd parents are mostly preoccupied to understand that children need to be guided.
